KCF gives families needed support and information to make healthy choices for their children.

OUR SERVICES

The Kids Come First Community Health Center is more than a clinic. We consider ourselves a “health care home” where our kids get to know their doctors and feel comfortable returning for all of their health needs from birth to adolescence.

Affordable Pediatric Primary Health Care

KCF provides primary pediatric health care for uninsured or under-insured children ages 0 – 17. Including:

  • Treatment and follow-up for non-emergent illness and injury
  • Well-child care, physical exams and health promotion guidance for parents and children
  • Immunizations and tuberculosis testing (including TB testing for at-risk family members, teachers, and community childcare professionals)
  • Vision and hearing screening in clinic and community settings
  • Special “teen clinic” – evening hours for adolescent health care issues

Health Education

We believe that every encounter at Kids Come First should be a health education experience! We strive to help families make and implement healthy lifestyle choices.

  • Anticipatory Guidance – We educate and guide families to understand the needs of their kids.
  • Special Programs
    • Be sure to check out our SHAPIN’ UP/SLIMMIN’ DOWN, ASTHMA MANAGEMENT, and HOT TOPICS educations programs!

Health Access

On a case basis, Kids Come First assists families in accessing a wide variety of health care resources. Our compassionate and knowledgeable staff can help families apply for MediCal, Healthy Families, CalFresh (foodstamps), utility bill assistance, get referrals for specialty care and services not offered by our clinic, and even find resources like shoes, clothing, and food.

We partner with other organizations to help our kids get the services they need:

Center for Oral Health provides our kids (under 5) with routine dental services right within our facility. For those above the age of 5, we provide referrals for dental services outside of our clinic.

We have also partnered with the Breath Mobile, and receive regular visits from the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Mobile Clinic.

We also advocate on behalf of children and families in need by following the latest developments in health care policy. We raise awareness and communicate with our local and state governments and are often consulted on local health issues and initiatives within the City of Ontario and San Bernardino County.

Immunizations

Kids Come First hosts a walk-in vaccine clinic every Tuesday. We provide vaccines as well as TB screening for childcare workers and also provide an on-demand Immunization services for organizations and schools.

Community Outreach

Kids Come First strives to engage individuals, families, and organizations in promoting children’s health and wellness. In addition to the programs and services offered under our roof, we provide “on-demand” health services and participate in various health fairs and community events. For a listing of our events:

We’re also always looking for new ways to collaborate with the community. If your business or organization has an event regarding health and wellness, invite us! We’ll come!

Literacy Support

Kids Come First is dedicated to helping kids succeed in school and life. We encourage our kids to participate in the Take Home a Book and commonly “prescribe” reading as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. Our volunteers spend time reading to children in the waiting room. We are always collecting new reading materials and graciously accept donations.

Professional Education/Volunteer Opportunities

In order to encourage career development and service in community-based health care, Kids Come First works to enrich the professional lives of our staff and volunteers. We provide highly rewarding clinical rotations for Physician’s Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Medical Assistants as well as diverse opportunities for those who wish to give their time to our cause.
